Gardening Tips: You Didn’t Know You Needed

Are you a plant lover? Then you are at the perfect blog! Here you will find some essential free gardening tips that will help you throughout your gardening experience.

1) Location- Choose a spot in your home where you’ll see the plants often. Remember, ‘out of sight, out of mind’ this phrase definitely applies to gardening. By placing your garden in a visible area, you’ll be much more likely to spend time managing it. Balcony, corners of living room, front side of the door, windows and terrace are some basic and casual spots for home plants in Indian households.

2) Sunlight- After choosing a spot for your plants, make sure it is a spot of Sun. Most edible plants, such as vegetables, herbs, and fruits, require at least 6 hours of sunlight to thrive. Good daylight allows your plants to do their photosynthesis job happily.

3) Water- When to water your plants? What is the perfect time when your plants need and suck most of the water? This is a basic gardening tip that during summers you need to water your plants at least twice a day. The best times can be early morning and night. Opposite to this, during monsoon the atmosphere is quite healthy and humid which is great for plants so you can take rest and water the plants once a day or if heavy rain is happening then once in 2 days.

4) Soil- When choosing soil for home gardening, ensure it has a balanced texture of multiple needs which will improve the structure and fertility for plants. Essential nutrients like nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium in the right balance will incredibly work for your home plants. Regularly refresh the soil in your pots with organic fertilizers and other needed nutrients. Occasionally, loosen the upper layer of soil as it can become compacted and unhealthy for the plant.

5) Containers- Selecting containers for home plants is an easy task, but there are some important things to keep in mind when buying them. Ensure that the containers have ample space for the plant roots to grow and have drainage holes to prevent waterlogging. The pots should be lightweight, but don’t compromise on quality. There are various pot materials to consider: terracotta pots allow for good air and moisture exchange but need frequent watering, plastic pots hold moisture well and are lightweight, while ceramic pots are aesthetically pleasing but heavier. Nowadays, containers with self-watering systems can be a good choice.

6) Plant feeding- Many people, especially beginner plant parents, often think that plants only need good sunlight and plenty of water. However, it’s crucial to understand that plants also need specific nutrients to reach their full potential. Feeding your plants properly is essential for their growth and overall health. Different plants have unique nutritional needs: flowering plants typically require more phosphorus, while leafy greens benefit from higher nitrogen levels. By providing the right nutrients, you can help your plants thrive and grow to their fullest potential.
